Kampung Budaya Sarawak                                  (Sarawak Cultural Village)

Sarawak Cultural Village

Sarawak Cultural is a a renowned tourist place in Kuching. Sarawak. it is a 'living museum', to preserve the identity of Sarawak's ethnics. Located at Pantai Damai, Santubong, just 32km from the state capital, Kuching, it is the perfect place to get introduced to local culture and lifestyle. it is situated at the under the mountain of Santubong

Sprawled across 17 acres, there are about 150 people living in the village, demonstrating traditional daily activities from Sarawak's diverse tribes like the processing of sago and the making of handicrafts. They wear traditional costumes and also put on dances for visitors.

My suggestions, make sure you are early to Kampung Budaya Sarawak. you can either took shuttle in front of Holiday Inn Kuching for RM10 per one way, took a private tour or rent a car. it is open at 9:am, you may have sufficient time to visit and explore each houses, The most fantastic house is Melanau house, cause it's very huge and quite a scare if you are in it due to its high level above ground.

Don't forget to play certain traditional games at Malay house, such as congkak. (how to play congkak) watch cultural dances and you can even sleep there? I did it once and the caretaker of the house was very sporting and i took a power nap. my friend even try the games and it is quite fun actually.

We watched the cultural performance at the Theatre at 11am. Do not miss the show as it is only twice per day, at 11 am and 4 pm. you can see all ethnics showing their lovely dance, and some bamboo shooting as well. if you are lucky, you will be 'forced' to dance as well. the dancers will select randomly and dance together with them. Energetic, and worth watching.

P/s: don;t forget to do ink tattoo (not permanent) :)
i did this at 2012
